A study by the Canadian Wood Council compares the impacts created in the life cycle of three houses of 240 square metres (2,600 sq. ft.) built using wood frame, steel and concrete construction, over a period of 20 years.

Compared to the wood frame house :

  • steel emitted 24% and concrete 47% more pollution into the air;
  • steel produced 8% and concrete 23% more solid waste;
  • steel used 11% and concrete 81% more resources;
  • steel required 26% and concrete 57% more energy;
  • steel emitted 34% and concrete 81% more greenhouse gases;
  • steel produced 4 times and concrete 3.5 times more polluted water.

In the light of these figures, the wood frame house is a much better eco-energetic choice than either steel or concrete. When you choose to build a Demtec wood frame house, you are voting for sustainable development and the safeguard of our environment, in addition to choosing a home that is healthy, warm and long-lasting.
